Through its housing rehabilitation work, the Windham & Windsor Housing Trust literally breathes new life into old, often severely dilapidated buildings. WWHT intentionally undertakes aggressive rehabilitation work in order to ensure housing affordability and quality for many generations to come. Previously unsafe apartment buildings are transformed into safe, attractive, well-managed properties, with a nonprofit landlord accountable to the community. Moreover, the Trust’s work serves as a catalyst for neighborhood improvements and other types of reinvestment activities, which collectively restore neighborhood pride, stability, and a sense of community.
By targeting existing housing for rehabilitation, WWHT also restores historic buildings and preserves local history. Buildings with important stories and a place in the history and hearts of their communities are restored to their former glory and given a new lease on life—a lasting legacy that will reap future benefits for many generations.
